Elham Valley Referrals is an independent practice set up in 2008 by Rebecca Elks , one of the country's leading veterinary ophthalmologists. Rebecca qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 1987 and worked in small animal practices, mostly in London and the south east of England but also in Yorkshire, before obtaining her RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Ophthalmology in 1997. She returned to the Royal Veterinary College in 1995 to take up a three-year residency in ophthalmology and obtained the Diploma in Veterinary Ophthalmology in 2002.
Latterly she was head of the clinical ophthalmology service at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals in her position as Lecturer in Ophthalmology and was responsible for both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the subject.
After leaving the College in 2004 she worked as a private consultant in various referral practices in the south east, specialising in ophthalmology before setting up Elham Valley Referrals. At the same time she provided Continuing Professional Development for vets and was until recently part of the examining team for the RCVS Certificate in Ophthalmology.
